Pass inspection the first time. Keep kids out of the water.
Florida law requires a residential pool barrier at least 4 feet tall with no gaps larger than 4 inches and a self-closing, self-latching gate that opens away from the pool with the latch at least 54 inches above grade; we install removable mesh and aluminum barriers that meet Miami-Dade inspection on the first visit.

Pool barrier work is the most code-driven fencing we do, and it is the work most often failed at inspection when a homeowner or handyman installs it. Miami-Dade County enforces the Florida Building Code Residential pool barrier requirements plus the Residential Swimming Pool Safety Act, and a failed inspection stops your pool permit cold.
The rules that trip people up: the barrier must be at least 48 inches tall measured on the outside, openings must not pass a 4-inch sphere, there can be no horizontal member on the outside that a toddler can use as a foothold, the gap under the barrier cannot exceed 2 inches over a hard surface, and the gate must swing outward, self-close and self-latch from any position.
We install two kinds of barrier. Removable mesh barriers (4 or 5 feet, black or beige, with self-closing gate) go in around an existing deck and can be taken down for parties. Permanent aluminum barriers give you a finished, code-compliant look with the same enclosure. On many Kendall lots the perimeter fence itself can serve as part of the barrier, reducing the amount of new fencing needed.
A residential pool barrier must be at least 48 inches tall, have no openings that pass a 4-inch sphere, have no exterior climbable horizontal members, leave no more than a 2-inch gap at the bottom over a hard surface, and use a self-closing, self-latching gate that swings away from the pool with the latch at least 54 inches above grade.
Often yes, if it is at least 4 feet tall, has compliant gaps and hardware, and fully encloses the pool area. We inspect the existing fence first and quote only the segments and gate upgrades that code actually requires.
Removable mesh barriers are usually installed in a single day, and we can often be on site within 3 to 5 business days. Permanent aluminum barriers take two days plus permit time.
If the barrier is a complete fence enclosure around the pool, alarms are generally not required. If a wall of the house serves as part of the barrier, code requires exit alarms or self-closing, self-latching doors on those openings.
